Hi, I’m Mary, a London-based author writing in the Chick Lit/ Rom Com space. I’m rep’d by Marissa at Northbank Talent, who rocks a powder blue suit and is very patient.
The Quack is my personal blog which I started in 2022. Topics include (but are not limited to): family, men, friends, birth control and general life as a basic thirty-something woman. I record and edit each blog into ten minute podcast episodes – which you can find on the usual platforms.
My debut novel,Amy Elman Doesn’t Feel Sexy is out now!
The German translation, titled, this isn’t happiness, is also out… You can it order now.
Bad Dates Club will be Coming September 2026. If you want to do some background reading, I have compiled a list of all the Quacks that inspired the book.
Things you probably don’t need to know
The best word in the world (in my opinion) is ‘rabbit’; the worst word is ‘ribbon’… a man said that word on a date and it gave me the ick. My choice of coffee: 1. Iced black Americanos 2. Black Americanos (hot) 3. Oat-milk Cappuccino….I had to check the spelling of cappuccino. My hair is not natural, but thanks for asking. I wish I knew more about art. I live near the top of the Victoria Line. Big fan of documentaries on cults, swindlers and diets. I have two brothers; one lives in the Amazon rainforest, the other lives on a boat. I have a boyfriend who has an impressive collection of flower-patterned knitwear. I’m plant-based because I watched too many documentaries on the digestive system, I didn’t drink alcohol from 28-33, but now drink rosé from Provence. As a teenager, I went through an emo stage, a wrestling stage, and an Ant and Dec stage. I can put my tongue on my nose. I’m not good at competitive sports, playing musical instruments, maths, sewing, baking or dancing.
